I have always wanted to be a teacher and I have been teaching/tutoring in math for 3 years now and I love every second of it. "I recently graduated from CU with a degree in Astrophysics, and I will be pursuing a PhD in the Fall of 2018. As an undergraduate, I helped teach statistics with Python programming, and privately tutored calculus as well as general physics. The satisfaction of helping someone get their “ah-ha” moment is what motivates me to teach. Nothing is more gratifying than helping a student succeed by encouraging them to think critically and work hard. I aim to create a comfortable, focused, and supportive environment for my students. Also, I try to make the learning experience enjoyable by incorporating my students’ personal interests into my lessons. Aside from tutoring, I like to be outdoors, play a variety of sports, and go stargazing."

I have been tutoring for a little over four years now in the areas of math and physics, three of which have been for CU Boulder. I love to help students gain a new appreciation for these subjects, allowing them to gain a new understanding of the importance of what they are learning. Seeing the sudden moment of understanding, along with a new sense of wonder, is what drives my love for teaching."

"I am currently a senior astrophysics major at CU Boulder. I have experience tutoring students in mathematics through calculus and differential equations, in addition to high school and college-level mechanical physics. What motivates me to be the best tutor I can is my genuine interest in a student's success; I love seeing that light bulb go off in a student's head when they begin to understand a difficult concept."

"I have over a decade of experience as a Research and Development Scientist and recently graduated with a Master of Science in Chemistry as well as a Master of Science in Environmental Science from Indiana University. As a graduate student, I had the opportunity to be an Associate Instructor for Freshman Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry laboratory and Energy Economics. Each semester I asked the students to step back from the symbolism of the mathematics and seek to understand the reasoning behind the symbolism. I enjoyed these roles immensely, particularly the challenge of conveying insights from science and economics in an explicit and clear manner so that students felt comfortable utilizing these insights to perform calculations and predict outcomes. Education, for me, is about gaining powerful, problem-solving insights and forming connections between seemingly disparate facts. Working with students to uncover these insights and make powerful connection is both gratifying and incredibly important from a social perspective. I do not believe it is the responsibility of the student to “figure it out”. I believe it is my responsibility as an educator to make these insights as clear, reasonable and digestible as possible."

"I am a recent graduate from Colorado School of Mines with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science. During my time at Mines, I joined a work study program that allowed me to tutor students at a local community high school; I would attend classes during the day and tutor students during the evenings. Tutoring there sparked my passion for helping others succeed in their educational goals, and being able to do so has been a very rewarding experience for me. My students have shown me first-hand how effort and perseverance can help overcome any subject that gives anyone a difficult time. I now have over three years of tutoring experience, and I look forward to seeing even more students accomplish great things."

"I recently graduated with an M.S. in Math from the University of Denver. While earning my degree, I tutored calculus students in the math center and was a graduate teaching assistant for business calculus and a math and music class. I also have a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire with a minor in physics. I really enjoy tutoring because it allows me to get to know my students much better and understand how exactly they learn. There is no greater achievement for me than seeing someone accomplish something that they once thought they couldn’t. I hope that I can help all of my students to have as many of those moments as possible. In addition to tutoring I love hiking, skiing, and camping on the weekends and I play in an intramural soccer league on Friday nights."

"I am a STEM Education/Physics double major graduate from the University of Kentucky where I spent two years tutoring General/Calculus-Based Physics for students. I also have taught at the high school level for several science subjects. All throughout my academic career I have struggled reaching out to others for help and I'm sure my experience is similar to many others. That's why my greatest joy is to work with others and foster a sense of empowerment and community. "I am a Colorado School of Mines Student studying physics and am pretty much done with my studies. I am currently enjoying being a Research Assistant to professors at Mines while I wait to graduate and figure out where I want to go to grad school. I have TA’ed multiple courses at the Colorado School of Mines: Differential Equations Honors, Calculus 3 Honors, and Machine Shop. Before that I was a lifeguard and swim instructor in Austin, TX. The reason I don't do something else as a job is I like teaching people things that I know, and seeing them grow and improve as both students and people. "

I’ve had a full year of formally tutoring math, but I’ve been helping people of all ages with math since I was in high school. I love music, drawing comics, and helping students learn for themselves. Tutoring is one of my favorite jobs because I love giving people the extra nudge they need to succeed."

"I am a federal statistician who never learned to stop learning continually, earning masters in cybersecurity and statistics, bachelors in business and numerical analysis, and a certificate in infrared technology just so I could play with lasers. I have tutored mathematics to anyone who asked since I was eight and quickly discovered that intangible symbiosis of a student and teacher growing their understanding of a subject simultaneously – obviously a self-feeding cycle that ingrains itself insidiously. I smack little blue balls just to make a point, sing barbershop badly, checkmate with a pawn, and divide by zero with impunity. My goal is to be devoid of all normality whatsoever (not easy for a stats geek), and I will do my best to help you reach yours. So, maybe we can brighten each other’s day!"

"I am a sophomore at Colorado School of Mines studying Chemical Engineering. I am also studying in a program to receive my teaching licence from the University of Northern Colorado. I have tutored as a high school student in my home town back in Texas. I enjoy working with students because watching people discover and learn, to me is one of the best experiences in life."
